Hey Kevin, HAPPY NEW YR! Kevin, I have to say I have never been big on "folk", but I love "Easy To Be Beautiful", the lyrics and clean sound (less is more). I could hear 2 part harmony with a female voice too! Sweet ha..?lol!
Kevin, looking forward to seeing you at Hauser Winery. I stumbled onto your webpage by accident. I enjoy listening to your music, sounds great on my laptop! Guitar music and lyrics to the songs... keep it coming!

I usually am not a fan of folk music or anything of the sort, but when I heard your voice I was taken aback at the clarity and soul emanating through my computer speakers. The lyrics were top-notch as well (I'm Gonna Love). Thank you for showing me how beautiful songs can be in any music genre.

I love your music Kevin. It has such meaning to it. I find myself singing along the whole song. Your songs have a very deep meaning to them... I love them and I will continue to listen for a very long time.

Kevin, we were hooked the very first time we saw Voxology perform in State College. My husband could not stop commenting on your tremendous guitar playing while I was caught up in voices and lyrics. Since then we have seen you perform numerous times and we REALLY enjoy your music. Most recently, after seeing you perform in State College during the Arts Festival, I actually wanted to write and comment about what a wonderful cheerful optimism you conveyed. Miraculously, you sang songs that had an immediate impact on family relationships in our lives. I even found myself writing a poem in my mind during your performance! I would say that music is way up there as far as being an incredibly important part of my life--both listening to it and attending performances. I am drawn not only to melodies and voices, but also to unique and meaningful lyrics, and you certainly fit that bill. The song you wrote about your grandfather should definitely win an award, if it hasn't already done so. Certainly you/Voxology are one of our favorite performers and we try to see you whenever we get the chance. (We are hoping to catch you in Lock Haven August 13.) You asked what other performers have impressed me. I think the very first concert that put me in 7th heaven was seeing Gordon Lightfoot in Detroit in the 70's. At that time we also loved to see folk singers at a place called the Raven Gallery. Chuck Mitchell (Joni Mithell's husband) was a performer there and sang songs that stay in my memory ("The Dutchman" and "July, You're a Woman"). Sara McLachlan is incredible singing "The River" (by Joni Mitchell) and "Song for a Winter's Night" (by Gordon Lightfoot). I would love to hear you or Voxology do those. In the rock vein, my husband and I really enjoy seeing Fat Girl Slim, a local State College group. The lead singer has a great voice, tremendous energy, and a nice rapport with the audience. I can never understand why everyone isn't up dancing when this group performs! Even when I am not dancing I am choreographing dances in my head! (If you are interested in seeing this group, they are playing on the floating stage in Lock Haven August 22). I didn't mean for this to be so long, though I feared that would happen and is the reason this comment was so long in coming. I love music so much that when I got your email about commenting I felt like someone was feeling the same way I do and it opened up the floodgates! I probably have not even conveyed everything I had hoped to, but I listened to "Under the Covers" for 6 hours straight so I think that says it all. Keep up the WONDERFUL work you are doing. You are making the world better! And we will continue to "chase the music".

Kevin, first of all it must have been a great performance as one of the guys that I work with that was there talked about it off and on all day long.He said it was incredible. Regarding your concern about any outstanding performances that I have experienced in my life time.Well their are many , but I would rather comment on one that really impressed me on the local level. That is the last night of performances at the Good Life Cafe in Carlisle. What a lot of outstanding talent , the songs, the mix and the sound was the best that I have heard in a long time. You and everyone else came across so well. I had never heard the guy that owned the place sing and play before but he was good. He reminded me of J. J. Cale and he is a favorite of mine. I know everything that night was most likely unrehearsed and that is the way I like it sometimes. Anyway thanks for all the good music over the years and also the time that we experienced together with Voxology in Kentucky several years ago.

Music is the universal language. It's a way for our souls speak. It gives an added dimension to the communication between the musician and the audience. At least it should. You come to each performance without a mask, ready to bear yours. Your talent and skill is so apparent. I know musicians who are bitter and jaded, but skilled, and they try to hide it but it still come through. Keep up what you are doing we all need to hear more of it!

The Tommy E. show was so much more than simply music played to perfection (at warp speed) but rather the joy of seeing someone share the gift which he has been given and clearly loves. Also amazing was the "no limitation" material which prompted a big how can he do that from me.

I think if a artist truely feels in their heart what they are singing, then that will radiate and transend to the heart of the fans, and for me, thats what makes a unforgettable show. You cant connect with your fans if you dont "feel" what you're singing about!

the thing for me that really makes a live show special ( assuming that the music is already good) is the connection i make with the performing artist, it sucks to see your favorite band acting like douche bags on stage and not even acknowledging the audience. A great example is old crow medicine show ( i saw this band days before i met you at common ground and took your class) Not only was their energy on stage hard to escape, but as i was in the front row i could really feel like i was a part of the music, almost as if my ecstatic cheering and shouting and absurd dancing was driving the band to perform their best.

What is the root of musical bliss? What a question you asked, my dear Neidig. First of all, we must limit this discussion to music that is truly Divinely inspired. Most likely from a performer like you that has his eyes closed during much of a performance. Watching them makes your eyes water in reminiscent understanding, your heart burst forth in your chest with complete openness and vulnerability, and you want to run to them, embrace them, and ask them, "How did you know?? How did you know me so well? How could you explain the things that I've been struggling to understand?!" These life definitions go for lyrics as well as the passion of the strings. A true musician puts the entire body and soul into their art. When I played piano, people would often laugh at the way I almost "writhed" on the piano bench, I "ebbed and flowed" I called it. The music was like a wave that came over me. I felt it, and merely let my fingers fall over the black and whites with a reverent touch, rarely ever opening my eyes to glance at the keys. When you close your eyes and listen to the Moonlight Sonata, especially keeping in mind Beethoven was deaf when he wrote it, you realize that there is more to musical passion than merely hearing with the ear. You feel in your heart, you make love to it in your soul... it pours forth from you in a tidal wave that you can not control. THAT is where the bliss comes from. When that eruption leaves you again pure, and your soul glows from within with Divine Light. The passion of sound. There is love in sound. And love holds the Universe together.

I go to see live music mostly to see a favorite band and experience the joy of seeing them live and up close.
Also with the hope that I'll find a new band to enjoy with any one of the opening acts. But I also go to feel the energy that is produced from the crowd especially if it is a good concert. My favorite show was A Twisted Christmas by Twisted Sister. They played on my birthday and my brother got tickets for us both. I have always like them not just for their music but also their musical energy and stage presence.

I think the greatest asset of consuming live music is the sense of heroism. It's like Batman or Wolverine is on stage, and instead of saving the girl with a cape or adamantium claws, the artist is saving anywhere from 50 to 50,000 people with a guitar. It's escape from the villain through capture by the hero; it's like nothing else. Even when the credits roll at the end, you leave with the sense of, "While my life is full of Kryptonite, Superman will be there when I need it most..."
Kevin,
I think it's great that you want to know what people think. I saw some great performers in the last year, but my favorite was you, Henry and Alexander Mitchell - you guys were great together! Do it again! Please!

Wow. That was the only exclamation I had after the Tim O'Brien show. Your voice was crystal and chilled to the bone! Your humbleness was felt, and the audience was yours. Nothing could have interrupted the devotion to you for those 4 songs. I'm honored to know I had the privilege to experience that occasion, for it is the doorway to something beyond what you can fathom. You deserve everything you are manifesting.
Congrats on your stunning opener for Tim O'Brien Sat! Your performance was sublime. You totally rocked the joint when you and Tim and Matt played together. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Upon listening to 'Only Me,' I am once again inspired to fathom possibilities that were never previously in my consciousness. The thought-provoking, soul-awakening messages move to me tears, and the melodies to reverence. Never before have I been so aware or so surrounded by Elysium. You take the commonplace and make it fantastic. Thank you for allowing the listener to travel with you as you investigate your dreams and the Universe. Most profound.

Kevin,
I heard you at Harvest Moon Festival today and was impressed by the sensitivity and clarity of your voice. I especially loved one song that you sang by yourself, but have forgotten the title. It was a quiet piece, I believe it was the 3rd to last song you and Henry performed. I think you said it was to on your new CD. If you would let me know I'd greatly appreciate it (and likely purchase the CD)! Thank you for bringing an appropriate close to a wonderful festival.

Congratulations on your recording contract which proves that persistence leads to recognition, but more than that, the cream always surfaces. So, that fiercely dedicated fan of yours out there really is a music officionato and I will forever have impicit trust in her opinions!

Hey Kevin,
Your "Abstract and to the Point" cd is (if you'll excuse my French) fuckin' great. By the way, this is Max Hykes sending this email. I used to play with Tresa & Laurie in SOLIEL from 94-96. Sorry for the blunt assessment of the cd but I got to tell it like it is. Your instrumentals just kill me as does your overall playing and singing. I remember seeing you for the first time back around 94-95 when you were with Deviation and you floored me then. I'm glad to see and hear that you are doing great as a musician. I think the last I saw you perform was at one of the Chambersfest events in front of the courthouse with Voxology. Obviously I don't get out much. My cousin actually lent me your cd the other evening (he might get it back). He and his wife are big Voxology fans and try to catch you at the winery in Adams county as often as possible. I believe he told me he bought the cd the last time he saw you there. Anyway, keep up the great work and I look forward to future solo offerings from you (may I suggest an all instrumental outing).

P.S. - I was the girl at Cool Beans last night that almost lost her mind when you started singing Trouble. And that song "Easy To Be Beautiful"...is ridiculous. That guitar playing is sick. You don't have a contact number or anything like that...so maybe you'll read this. I was actually interested in guitar lessons. I have been for awhile. I just started teaching myself. I've been playing for a few months, but would really like some guided direction. If you can contact me at this email address...that would be great. Thanks!

Hey Kevin - nice place you have here - best of luck with it!
and now for something original that you HAVEN'T already heard from me. First of all, the journal thing; Have you been reading my journal because you sing exactly what i want to hear! It's like you stole all of my poetry and put it to music: that's how much I loved the CD. And I may not be your biggest fan because I haven't seen you as much as I hoped I would've, but I can at least say I'm one of the youngest! And what else is missing... oh yeah. You're beautiful. It's easy to be beautiful isn't it? I think so anyway. But you're the kind of beautiful that you feel and hear, not what you see (although it's not bad-looking from the outside either.) ehem. And yes, I'm going for "Longest Guestbook Entry." What can I say that hasn't been said about you? You're... enigmatic. You're... John Denver-ish, you're super nice and a cool guy, you're a darn good guitar player, you're Kevin! Ok now it's getting ridiculous. I gotta find something to say to end this. ok.
Kevin, you've been practicing what you love to do your whole life and now that you have the power to show your soul to the world, you can do anything you ever wanted. And you will, I guarentee it. Why? Because you have long hair, that's why. Don't ever change, brotha.
